Character Name: Dr. Carson Beckett
Fandom: Stargate: Atlantis
Character Notes:
History: Right here
Personality: Carson is generally kind, polite and caring.

Being a doctor means that he has a strong moral compass. A prime example of this is when he locks out the hospital level in Atlantis, after evacuating the rest of his personnel, barring one doctor who volunteered to stay behind. He was set to operate on a member of the expedition infected with an exploding tumour. Upon being confronted by Dr. Rodney McKay about his decision, Rodney described Carson’s patient as being “dead anyway.” Carson’s response was “Like hell he is,” before cutting communications off.

Carson has a witty sense of humour, often making jokes at his own expense.
Being not one of the most technologically minded members of the Expedition, he has a strong aversion to Stargate travel, describing it as a “bloody insanity.” He also has a lack of confidence in himself when it comes to powering Ancient Technology. He frequently complains when he’s forced into a situation where he needs to sit in the Ancient Control Chair, or pilot a puddle jumper.

Carson often seems to talk to much, and has a tendency to ramble on, especially when he’s scared or nervous. This is often to the annoyance and amusement of the other members of his team. A notable example is, while waiting at the Midway Station of the McKay-Carter Intergalactic Space Bridge, Carson suddenly bursts out that he left some turtles back on earth. (See link here.)

Carson is exceptionally bright when it comes to medicine and genetics. He was able to create the ATA Gene Therapy and the Iratus Bug Retrovirus. He works well under pressure, providing that he knows exactly what he’s doing, and people often know him as the best doctor in two galaxies. Despite all of this, Carson is extremely modest, and doesn’t use this reputation very often.

Carson doesn’t often get angry. He mostly gets exasperated at different scenarios. He dislikes people shoving tasks on him that he doesn’t think he will be able to do, and then applying pressure to those situations. For example, flying a Puddle Jumper in an offensive formation against a squad of Wraith Darts attacking Atlantis. (“I’m a doctor, not a bloody fighter pilot!”)

First Person (entry type):

Third Person: Log Sample: ”He’s as good as dead anyway!” “Like hell he is.” Beckett mumbles, as he turns off his radio. Dear god, Rodney, has anyone ever told you how annoying your voice can be? He doesn’t need any distractions. Not when he’s elbows-deep in someone’s chest cavity to remove an extremely volatile tumour.

Carson is sweating under the surgical lights as he attempts to get in at the tumour, which had built up behind Dr. James Watson’s lungs. He had to do this, or he’d feel guilty. He was the one that gave the scientist a clean bill of health last night, and it was up to him to fix this.

The OR Level had been sealed, and the only people left were Carson and his nurse, Marie. He was grateful for her help, but she hadn’t needed to stay. She was right, though. Carson couldn’t do this alone…

Rodney wouldn’t be able to crack his command code in time, Carson knew. He was on his own until he removed the tumour or it… No, he wasn’t going to think about that. He could see the bloody thing, as he moves his instruments around to try and pluck it out…

Success! He’d managed to remove the tumour and now he was, very carefully, moving around to place it in the frozen organ containment box. Once done, he strips his gloves off and reactivates his radio. “Okay, colonel. I’ve removed the tumour. I’m unlocking the OR Level now.”

Carson flops into a seat, leaving Dr. Watson in the capable hands of Marie to close him up. He relaxes, sighing, eyeing the box that contains the tumour.

“Sod it, I’m going to meet them half way. The sooner I get this thing out of my bloody sight, the better."
